PROFES-SIONAL TEETH CLEANING

Professional teeth cleaning (PZR)

An elementary component of our treatment concept

In many dental practices, the focus is still primarily on repairing and treating dental diseases, rather than on prevention.

However, this is gradually changing. Prophylactic measures such as professional teeth cleaning are becoming increasingly important – also in our practice clinic in Nordhorn.

Why is prophylaxis important?

Regular professional teeth cleaning (PZR) is a crucial building block for long-term dental health. It makes a significant contribution to preventing tooth decay and gum diseases such as periodontitis, and helps to extend the lifespan of your teeth and dentures.

The aim of PZR is to remove stubborn plaque that can accumulate over time on the tooth surfaces and around the gum line.

Up to 40% of the tooth surface cannot be freed from bacteria and residue by conventional dental care at home, especially in the interdental spaces, which enormously increases the risk of tooth decay or periodontitis.

Regular PZR minimizes the risk of tooth decay by a factor of 70, for example, and thus contributes to long-term dental health.

Procedure for professional teeth cleaning

As part of the professional teeth cleaning, a thorough examination of your teeth and gums is carried out first.

Plaque and tartar are then removed from the tooth surfaces, followed by polishing the teeth to make the surface smooth and more resistant to new plaque.

Finally, a fluoride treatment is carried out to strengthen the tooth enamel and prevent further tooth decay.

How often should a PZR be performed?

Professional teeth cleaning should take place in our practice at least twice a year to keep your teeth healthy and largely avoid disease.

For patients with dental implants, extensive dentures or special health restrictions, we recommend having teeth cleaning performed more frequently.

This helps to extend the life of the dentures and avoid possible complications.

Prophylaxis for all patients

Regular professional teeth cleaning is important for all patients – whether young or old. Regular teeth cleaning is also recommended for children and adolescents to promote good oral hygiene from the outset.

During pregnancy, it is also particularly important to keep the gums healthy, as hormonal changes can increase the risk of gum disease. In our practice, we offer special pregnancy prophylaxis to help you maintain your dental health during this special time.

We also recommend regular PZR for patients of advanced age or those taking certain medications. Here, we pay particular attention to maintaining your natural teeth and preventing root caries and gum disease.

Technology for maximum effectiveness

In our practice, we rely on state-of-the-art technologies from the Swiss company EMS, a leading manufacturer of innovative dental equipment.

With high-precision systems such as the Airflow® powder jet device, the Perioflow® device and the piezo-ceramic Scale Piezon PS, even stubborn plaque can be removed thoroughly and gently at the same time.

In particular, Guided Biofilm Therapy (GBT), a scientifically based method from EMS, enables targeted, minimally invasive cleaning and thus effectively protects against tooth decay and periodontitis.

These advanced technologies not only ensure particularly thorough cleaning, but also maximum comfort during treatment.

Investment in your long-term dental health

Regular professional teeth cleaning is more than just a treatment, it is an investment in your dental health. It not only helps to prevent dental diseases such as tooth decay and periodontitis, but also helps to keep your teeth healthy and functional for a lifetime.

A frequent topic in professional teeth cleaning is the question of costs. As a rule, statutory health insurance companies do not fully cover the costs of teeth cleaning. However, many statutory health insurance companies offer subsidies or cover part of the amount. Additional insurance and private health insurance often cover the entire costs of the prophylaxis measure.

Regular prophylaxis avoids unnecessary follow-up costs, such as expensive dentures or complex treatments due to advanced dental diseases. Investing in your dental health means maintaining your quality of life in the long term and promoting well-being.
