Periodontitis (Periodontal Disease) – The underestimated widespread disease number 1:
Periodontitis is a chronic inflammation of the tooth-supporting tissues caused by bacterial plaque. Initial signs such as reddened or bleeding gums are often ignored – but if left untreated, the disease leads to the recession of gums and jawbone, to tooth loosening and eventually even to the loss of healthy teeth.
But not only your oral health is affected! Periodontitis can significantly impair general health. Bacteria and their toxins enter the body through the bloodstream and promote cardiovascular diseases, rheumatic complaints, poorer diabetes control and even complications during pregnancy.
In Germany, more than 10 million people are affected – but with targeted prevention, early detection and modern periodontitis therapy, the course of the disease can be stopped.
